This rarely happened, but the next fight took place in the homeland of Fedor Emelianenko - in Russia. Under the contract, he could spend fighting in other organizations, if the fights will take place in his homeland. Fedor's opponent was an American fighter in the Greco-Roman style Matthew James Lindland. This fight was essentially a struggle between two styles: Greco-Roman wrestling and combat sambo.

The fight took place April 14, 2007 in St. Petersburg (Russia) to the tournament BodogFIGHT: Clash of the Nations.
